chicuelina, serpentina and veronica

Challenge: To recreate in large scale three sculptures in glass fiber.

These three art pieces by Venezuelan sculptor José Gabriel Fernández, were named Chicuelina, Serpentina and Verónica. The form of the sculptors is meant to simulate the movement of a bull fighter’s cape when in action. The artist’s need was to replicate the sculptors in a larger scale; therefore we studied the form, layout and measures of the original scale, in order to amplify this. We then used a CNC router to cut the layout out of plywood, and assemble the model. From this model, we extracted a fiberglass mold, from which the final fiberglass pieces were made. These were ultimately polished and finished with automotive paint.
